Laboratory spaces compose less than 14% of UNC’s campus, but are the largest consumers of energy, the third largest consumers of water, and the largest producer of waste at UNC.

For more than three decades, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has worked to foster a culture of sustainability in all members of the Carolina community, and in all campus environments.

In the laboratory setting, efforts to encourage sustainable lab practices have been led by individuals, academic groups, and UNC Green Labs. Explore below UNC Green Labs historical efforts to make UNC’s labs sustainable.
