Congratulations to the winners of the Spring 2022 Efficient Freezer Rebate Program! Winners of this year’s EFRP received rebates of up to $5,000 toward the purchase of a brand-new, energy-efficient freezer!

On Mar. 1st, the following UNC laboratories were announced winners of the Spring 2022 EFRP: Linnstaedt Lab, Todd Cohen Lab, Wolfgang Lab, Burch Lab, Human Pluripotent Cell Core Lab, and the BioSpecimen Processing Facility Lab.

The Linnstaedt Lab, led by Dr. Sarah Linnstaedt, focuses on research that will improve the recovery process for individuals who have experienced trauma.

The Cohen Lab, led by Dr. Todd Cohen, is performing research to better understand the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. They are currently researching two neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Dr. Matthew Wolfgang leads the Wolfgang Lab, whose research focuses on bacterial infections in lung diseases. The Burch Lab, led by Dr. Christina Burch, studies the evolution of complex traits, such as fitness, and the differences that exist between sexes.

The Human Pluripotent Cell Core Lab, led by Dr. Adriana Beltran, conducts translational research using human induced pluripotent stem cells, which are reprogrammed cells that are capable of self-renewal and cell differentiation.

The UNC BioSpecimen Processing Facility, led by Dr. Patricia Basta, supports the research community at UNC by processing and storing human biospecimens.

Last year, RESPC awarded six UNC laboratories during the Fall 2021 EFRP. The Moran Lab, Sheikh Lab, Anton Lab, Mass Spectrometry Core Lab, Livraghi-Butrico Lab, and the Tissue Procurement Facility in the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) all won rebates toward the purchase of an energy-efficient freezer.

Laboratories interested in participating in future EFRP cycles can find more information on the RESPC EFRP website.
