Thomas Lentz, UNC Gene Therapy Center (Samulski Lab)

Q: What does your lab do to incorporate green practices?

A: Our lab actively recycles materials collected by the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling program: lab plastics, glass bottles, cans, and paper. We volunteered to test plastic bag recycling in a pilot effort with the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. We try to be conscientious about turning off lab equipment when not in use. Finally, our lab tries to reuse disposable items when feasible. This is true with lab supplies, but also with non-lab items like plastic cutlery. We try to clean and reuse plasticware used for lunches and lab parties.
